With reference to Colonial Office letter

No. 30195/1927 of the 29th ultimo transmitting copy of a
telegram from the Governor of Hongkong on the subject of the
Chines Telegraph Office in the Colony, I am directed by
Secretary Sir Austen Chamberlain to state that he is enquir-
ing for the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company's views with
regard to Sir C. Clementi's proposal that they should operate
the office, under the nominal managership of Mr. Chen
Ching-wen, and as agents for the Ministry of Communications.
2. Copy of this letter is being sent to the Admiralty,
War Office, Air Ministry, India Office and General Post
Office.
